One thing that I love about the new year is the energy of a clean slate. This year is yours, you could make it anything that you want it to be. One way to do this is by choosing a word or phrase that serves as your guiding light for the year. It’s an anchor, a reminder, and a compass all in one.
For 2024, my word was Lioness. It represented fierce love and protection, particularly for my family. My focus was on empowering my children to step into their own spotlight and grow. It was a year of incredible highs and deep lows, but as I reflect on the past 12 months, I know I stayed true to the intention I set with that word.
This December, during a mastermind day, I had the opportunity to sit and reflect on what I want for 2025. Three words came to me. My 3 S’s: Signature, Sparkle, Simplicity.
Signature: This year, it’s my time. While I’ll still be traveling with my kids and supporting their dreams, I’m also carving out space for myself. To focus on my own creations, to understand and celebrate what makes me unique, and to embrace my personal “signature.”
Sparkle: This is the year to let my light shine, use my voice, and unapologetically show my sparkle.
Simplicity: After a chaotic year in 2024, I’m craving ease, grace, and clarity. I want to approach 2025 with intentional simplicity, ensuring every project, trip, and commitment aligns with my goals and values.
To ensure these words truly guide me, I’ve created a set of simple questions to ask myself before committing to anything this year:
Is it my signature?
Does it make me sparkle?
Is it simple?
These questions will help me stay aligned with my intention, providing clarity in decision-making and keeping me grounded.
So, how can you choose your word for 2025?
It starts with reflection. Take some time to sit with yourself and think about what you want the year ahead to look like. What do you want to create? What do you want to feel? Is there a word that perfectly encapsulates your vision? If not a single word, maybe a short phrase or even a selection of words that resonate deeply with you, as mine do this year.
Once you’ve chosen your word, define what it means to you. Go beyond the surface. What does it look like in action? How will it shape your choices, habits, and mindset?
Lastly, consider creating your own guiding questions. These questions should connect directly to your word, acting as a quick filter when opportunities arise. Do they align with the future you’re building? Do they serve your intention for 2025?
Choosing a word or phrase for the year isn’t about perfection—it’s about intention. It’s a way to consciously steer your year in the direction you want it to go, staying true to yourself and your values.
Choose a word or phrase that feels like home, and let it guide you toward a year of intention, growth, alignment, and fulfillment.
